Please support my Thunderclap project. I am raising support for my new book Keep the Faith, Ellen McGuire. I need 100 supporters by 8/15 for my message to be posted on that one day. The promotional advantage is an incredible chance to get myself and my book known. Just click on my Thunderclap link and share under Facebook, Twitter or Tumbler(or all three). Then please pass it on for me to your friends. This could make my career as an author by getting my name out there. You don't have to buy anything just support me. Thanks! Donna P.S. I would like to get my story known for Christmas buying!!!

Add your profile photos. We are announcing our first and only introductory webinar: Insider Tricks to getting published. Next Wednesday July 16 7pm EST. Only $20 for a never before available hour of content from Jeff Herman and Deborah Herman. You can email Deborah@Waenet.com for the first spots before official announcement and will be given registration instructions. Some of you already responded and are automatically on the list. We will be having regular webinars and want your input. We have already added "how to get an agent," to this first webinar based on a WAENet members response. We have not announced this yet so get on board before there are no spots.

I hear more agents are opening up to picture book writers. So my question is: What are they looking for in terms of picture books? Do they really want to see a potential series, or are several unrelated picture book manuscripts just as good?

My second question is more general: When querying agents, how much do you allude to future completed manuscripts and works in progress? Is it best to focus on the project you are submitting, or is it a good idea to mention that you have others?

Hi, thanks for doing the seminar, my main interest as a writer is finding an agent that is a good fit for me. I would love to attend the seminar.

Hi Deborah, thanks for putting that together. Will there be anything in this webinar about building your platform through social media you had mentioned a few months ago...or will that be a different webinar?

Comment by Deborah Herman on June 29, 2014 at 2:23pm

Hi All. We are going to be scheduling a webinar for our members. Please send questions that you would like to see. This is a basic webinar on "Insider Tricks to Getting Published." Those of you who have posted profile pics will get priority reservations. There are limited spots.

I was just approved to the WAE Network. I am thrilled to be a member, I will be posting my thoughts, learning from others, and hopefully contributing to the network.

I'm so glad to hear you'll be doing webinars, Deborah! But I have to be honest: the charge has to be pretty small for me to commit.

As a children's author, I will have a different platform dynamic than nonfiction and adult fiction authors. I have signed up for free webinars to help me build my platform and most of them only sort of apply to me. Since they are free, though, I don't mind that I'm not using every tip. If I'm going to pay for one, I would need to believe that the webinar will help me specifically and that I'll walk away will many tools I can put into practice immediately.

An example of a webinar that would be attractive would be one that had both general tips (that any author can use) as well as specific tips (that an unpublished picture book author could use).

I had a book about classic TV shows that was really cool. I wish I could remember the name of it. I think it was put out by either Timelife or Life Magazine.

When I was looking for the title online, I found this website: http://www.tvparty.com/bookstore.html maybe it will have something there.

Comment by Kathy MacKenzie on May 26, 2014 at 12:50pm

Deborah, I may be interested in the webinar. It depends on (a) cost; and how in-depth into the social media it goes, i.e., beginner vs advanced? where vs what to post? proven results/results statistics?

Comment by Deborah Herman on May 26, 2014 at 9:24am

I am looking for books, blogs or articles about classic television shows. What are some of your favorites? I would appreciate any info about writers in this area.

Who would be up for a webinar on building your platform through social media? I would like to plan one for July. There will be a small charge. You can let me know at Deborah@WAENet.com. You can also send me questions you would like to see covered. I want all our WAENet members to be up to speed with the new platforms and how they can even the playing field for you.

The Conspiracies of Dreams depicts the loving relationship between an Egyptian Military Intelligence Agent and a beautiful Israeli actress during the 1956 Suez-Sinai War. They meet through a Christian who wants to follow Jesus's footsteps on the Via Dolorosa. Their poignant relationship is threatened by all the nations for whom the Suez is a vital waterway, and by cultures who have been taught to hate each other for 3,000 years. The book is available on amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com and iBooks.com. I am also in the process of adapting it into a film script, but now I know why most books(not all) are better than movies.

Have a pilot TV script that we are looking for Representation for. If anyone has an LEGITIMATE contacts in LA area, please drop me a line. It's for the book "See Jack Die" which I wrote a few years ago, self-published, and serendipitously found a Producer at CBS who wanted to get the TV show developed from the book!

Great idea, Jen! Also, just FYI...if you are a writer who happens to love travel, have you heard about the new program with Amtrak for writers? It gets you free train rides! Check it out: Amtrak Writers Residency Program

I agree with Jen Garrett's most recent comment.  This is a perfect example of some of the increased opportunities for interaction I'd like to see around here.

One thing that's really hot in the writer's community is Twitter Pitch Contests. Even though I haven't been Favorited (yet) I've learned a lot about scaling your pitches down while still showing how your writing is unique.

I'd like to see more online events, like contests and workshops, in the Events page. I can submit a few that I've found, but it would be awesome if some were hosted by members of WAE.

I especially like online workshops hosted by experienced people. I recently participated week long query workshop on an agent's blog. She gave advice about what she liked to see in a query (structurally) and encouraged others to offer opinions, too. It was amazing, and I'd love to see something like here.

I'd like to learn more about building your platform through website and social media, especially for unpublished fiction authors seeking traditional publication.

Still writing textbooks and chapters in textbooks and articles in peer reviewed journals and on and on.  Oh how I wish I had more time for my novel!  Ugh!   Any other textbook writers out there?  I'd love to hear from you.
